Handbrake Won't Let Me Change Resolution. But there seems to be no option to simply turn this behavior off by default. The result was, that i get.
Now i'm trying my second clip and handbrake decides that the resolution of the video is actually 1646 x 1080 and outputs with black bars on the sides. Select aac with stereo mixdown for the audio. Ryanchild commented jun 25, 2018.

960x720 = fitting the 4:3 of course, but small parts arround the picture are hidden, obviously due to being in the overscan area. Select aac with stereo mixdown for the audio. Thus when trying to convert many clips at once, you have to individually go through all the clips, turn off the cropping, and change the output.

Confirm that you want to trust handbrake by again selecting open. Select open and your mac will ask whether you are certain you wish to open handbrake. Did a new test, 2 1080p mkv's encoding simentanously to 720p same bitrate as source.

Next to the default path box, click the browse button. Dvds, small web videos, and most analog sources are sd.↩ 720p hd video has a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. Any change will be autocorrected to that.
Set The Paused Resolution (Wrench Icon) Low As Well So You Can Also See It When Stopped.
Steps to reproduce the problem. Launching handbrake using the open option in the finder’s shortcut menu will bypass the initial gatekeeper message. Quit the encoding process and close handbrake.
So I Do That For One Clip And It Works.
The result was, that i get. Add the preset with the add button in the presets pane. Set width and height to arbitrary values and uncheck keep aspect ratio and set anamorphic to none.
